View from Central Park

Running around Central Park whilst on holiday in New York I was thinking my running shoes are quite well traveled.

It has become a habit of mine now to pack my running gear when I am away. Even if I don’t have a clear plan to run, seeing my running shoes in my case ensures that I don’t neglect my running for too long.

There is always a time even on holiday that you want a bit of time to yourself. As with all running it also gives you a bit of space to take in your surroundings and see things from a different perspective. You see much more at the pace of a runner when you are not having to get somewhere for a certain time (assuming you are not running around at some crazy pace!).

I also love being reminded I am part of the wider running community, and unless you have decided to holiday in some isolated place then you are likely to see other runners out and about.

Importantly I know I will be helping to maintain my running fitness and training block if I have an event in the near future. This is not about doing a 3 hour long run as you are on holiday after all! However you also don’t want to be stressing that you have not run for a week or so.

So make some room in your suitcase for your running shoes (they don’t weigh much nowadays after all!) and give them a holiday too!

I’m Tim

Like many people I took up running later in my life. I’m no elite athlete but have found how much better running is for my mind and body. This blog shares my journey for those runners who just want to feel better for a run.
